Orly Goldwasser is an Israeli scholar and linguist who is particularly known for her research on the development of the Hebrew language. She was born on April 14, 1960, in Tel Aviv, Israel. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Hebrew language and literature from Tel Aviv University in 1984 and completed her master's degree in the same subject from there in 1986.
Goldwasser is currently a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where she has been teaching and researching since 1990. Her research primarily focuses on the history and evolution of the Hebrew language. She has done extensive work studying the inscriptions on archaeological artifacts from the ancient Near East, which has helped to shed light on the development of Hebrew phonology, vocabulary, and writing.
In addition to her academic work, Goldwasser is also a poet and has published several collections of poetry. She has received numerous awards and honors for her work, including the Polonsky Prize for Creativity and Originality in the Humanistic Disciplines in 2011.
